Join the Walnut Street Synagogue for a historic tour of its building, built in 1909 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. This event will feature special guest speakers Dr. Samuel Gruber and Simona Di Nepi, who will introduce the work of Jewish immigrant artists and artisans active in Chelsea and Greater Boston during the early 20th century. One of the prominent artisans to be discussed is Sam Katz, a prolific woodworker and cabinetmaker who settled in Chelsea around 1916.
Participants will also have the unique opportunity to explore the synagogue, view its collection of Judaica, artwork, photographs, documents, books, posters, and plaques, and discover its painted ceiling, wall frescoes, murals, and intricately carved wood Aron Kodesh.
