Project Description

Join us around the fountain in Chelsea Square for a series of low key family happenings. Held on alternating Friday evenings, each pop up event will be different.  DJs and live music, vendors, art activities -- we're planning a whole calendar of something new. 

Complete calendar.   They are all Fridays, generally 6 to 9 pm. Raindates are the following Friday.

poetry NIght

Spoken word poets take to the mic. Join local artists as they share powerful experiences through poems and rap.

Word games will help you create your own instant poem.

Take a walk through the downtown to installations of poems creating by Chelsea youth on display in storefronts.

Kick Off VINYL NIght

Our DJ is spinning old school vinyl records.  Make requests from his big collection of funk, hip hop, soul, rock, house and more.  

Neighborways Design will on hand sharing info about the roadway mural coming in the next weeks for Division Street and Chelsea Square.

We'll be painting together some giant letters that will be our mobile sign for the summer.

6:30 Flag raising, 7:00 to 9:30 entertainment
5th Annual Chelsea LGBTQ Coalition Pride Flag Raising with Drag musical Bingo 

Join the Chelsea LGBTQ Coalition for the 5th annual raising of the Pride flag at the new location of Chelsea Square next to Stebbins Fountain.  The formal flag raising ceremony will feature Star Chung of the Chelsea Police and brief remarks commemorating the day. 

 

Event immediately followed with a community celebration. Entertainment provided by our hostess for the evening local Drag Queen Veronica Vandersnatch. Free games and musical fun will mark the evening. Expect Lots of fabulous prizes including rainbow masks and mini Chelsea Pride flags. 

 

This event is open to all members of the community and is presented in partnership with Chelsea Prospers, the City of Chelsea's neighborhood initiative, and Jukebox Events. With critical ground work provided by the Chelsea DPW for the fifth year in a row.

Paint night with Sury chavez 

Paintings  by Sury Chavez appear all around Chelsea. They're used on the Welcome to Chelsea signs on Fourth Street and Everett Avenue. She's painted murals for a interiors of a number of area restaurants. 

She makes creativity fun and easy for everyone.  Spend the evening with Sury around the fountain as she walks you through the process of making your own creation.

Nada Cart is scheduled with sales of their delicious, made from scratch, empanadas.

 

DJ Chacon will share a variety of tunes throughout the evening.

chelsea stories 

A  screening os Chelsea City Stories, an immersive and interactive oral history of Chelsea, MA told by the people who know best. Sit on the Square lawn and listen to stories from locals and share your own. 

Originally conceived as a live-storytelling event  for spring 2020, because of the pandemic is was restructured into a series of 5-minute edited video interviews with residents past and present sharing those indelible details only people who have walked these streets can provide. 


During intermissions, Bubbles McGee will be spreading joy and fun with bubbles. Grab a wand to create your own shapes.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Association is our partner for this evening. This non-profit organization knows a lot about kids.  For nearly 120 years they've been connecting caring adult mentors with children in under-resourced families.  These transformational, one-to-one relationships make a vital difference in the lives of these young people. 

Stop by for the all ages activities!
