Community Latin Grocery is a neighborhood corner store for all of life’s last minute essentials. Here, you can buy single frozen treats, basics like eggs, tortillas, plantains and queso, or even a lottery ticket if you’re feeling lucky.
From 1925 to 1981, Becky and David Glassman operated Glassman’s Store at this site on Highland Avenue and lived upstairs in their two-family home. They sold sandwiches to doctors and nurses at the former Chelsea Memorial Hospital, and kosher meats to the Yiddish-speaking clientele. Today, the small, packed market serves its Latinx neighborhood, and it is now “yo” instead of “oy” that one hears on the corner.
Community Latin Grocery es una tienda de esquina de barrio que vende todos los productos esenciales que se necesitan a último minuto. Aquí, puede comprar golosinas individuales congeladas, alimentos básicos como huevos, tortillas, plátanos y queso, o incluso un billete de lotería si se siente afortunado.
