Latin plates, sports bar
403 Broadway, Chelsea, MA 02150
Tu Casa is a friendly place. On a recent sunny afternoon, Colombian immigrant and owner Norberto Alvarez could be found walking through his bar and spacious dining room smiling, shaking hands, and sharing private conversations with customers - all of whom seem to know him. Two televisions over the bar area play telenovelas and Latin American soccer. Alvarez is a former soccer player and supports Chelsea’s own Highland Park soccer team. Artistic prints of work by famous Colombian artist Fernando Botero line the walls and are reminders of home.
Alvarez and his long-time manager Carlos have created a neighborhood spot for food, drink, music, and soccer-watching. Customers come for traditional Latin and South American fare with seafood specialties from the Colombian and Peruvian coastlines. Share the Peruvian Jalea, a jumble of crisp, fried calamari, shrimp, haddock, and yucca, topped with pico de gallo or seafood filled Paella Colombiana. The Toston con Todo is a traditional Colombian dish of fried green plantains with steak, guacamole and drizzled with a Colombian style tomato and onion sauce called hagao. Wash it down with house-made Sangria, Tu Casa’s signature cocktail, or shots of Guaro, a Colombian aguardiente that warms more than just the heart.
Upstairs at Tu Casa is a private dining room large enough for parties of up to 100 people. Occasionally there are special events hosted in the space with live music from Latin America.
