Mi Salvador Mexicano

It was 1998 when Mexican immigrant Vladimir Chino met Salvadoran immigrant Gloria while working at Cinco de Mayo, a tortilla factory here in Chelsea. They married, raised three children and along the way opened four businesses in Chelsea: Mi Salvador Mexicano restaurant, its companion Latin market and a bakery, the event space Emiliana Fiesta.

Inside Mi Salvador Mexicano you’ll be struck by the colors with walls of vibrant, bold scenes from Mexican folklore. The menu says, “100% Authentic Mexican,” so begin with Combinacion Jarocho, a Veracruz-inspired medley of mini quesadilla, tostada, and tamal, a banana leaf filled with chicken of pork, masa, chiles, spices. Follow with Bisteco Ranchero, grilled steak with cactus, onions, rice, and beans, or try the Camarones al Mojo de Ajo, shrimp with garlic sauce. If you’re in the mood just for a snack, there’s several taco options and delicious yucca fries.

Stop by on weekends to enjoy the live mariachis. In good weather, find a seat at one of their sidewalk tables take in the energy of the city. It is a great place to stop before or after a show at the Apollinaire Theater across the street. Enjoy a large margarita, or perhaps a CoronaRita, that is a margarita with a mini bottle of corona upside down in the glass.
